South African restaurant Taste of Cape Town opens in Nairobi

NAIROBI, Kenya, Sept 16 – South African restaurant group Taste of Cape Town has opened its first permanent outlet in East Africa in Nairobi.

The restaurant, located in an upmarket neighbourhood, serves South African dishes and wines, including Cape Malay curries, wood-fired meats and seafood.

The menu combines Cape and KwaZulu-Natal cuisine with seasonal ingredients sourced from East Africa.

South African High Commissioner to Kenya Salome Zulu Baloi said the restaurant’s opening reflects the growing links between Kenya and South Africa.

β€œFor years we have welcomed Kenyan visitors into our kitchens and dining rooms in Cape Town. They have brought energy, curiosity and a genuine love for our food,” Baloi said.

The restaurant also offers a selection of South African wines, while its interior draws inspiration from Cape Town’s harbour and street culture.

Taste of Cape Town said the Nairobi outlet was opened as demand for South African food grows alongside travel between the two countries.
