NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 27 – A police officer has shot himself at the Ngusishi police post, Timau police station, in Meru in a suspected suicide.
According to a report from Timau Police Station, Simon Gitonga shot himself dead Wednesday in the morning with his assigned AK 47 riffle, in his residential area that’s inside the police post premises.
“Death of a police officer/suicide incident: NO 70128 Simon Gitonga in charge of the Ngusishi police post has shot himself dead today morning at about 03:45hrs 27.12.2023 with his assigned rifle AK47 while inside his house within the police post compound,” the statement read.
They have confirmed that the bullet penetrated via the base of the chin exiting at the forehead.
According to the report, the police found a suicide note at the scene, which suggested that financial complications involving the relationship may have led to the suicide.
The police have assured that they will provide a detailed report after further investigations.
“A suicide note was found suggesting financial matters involving relationship. Detailed report to follow as scene is being processed,” they stated.
