NAIROBI, Kenya, Dec 27 – The Energy Petroleum and Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has urged people to be cautious as they handle Liquefied petroleum gas ( LPG) this festive season.
In a cautionary statement, the authority has urged people to observe safety precautions as they use LPG in the kitchen.
They have reminded kitchen users to always be keen and switch off the gas when the gas cylinder is not in use, and in case they smell any gas leak, no electrical equipment should be switched on when such an incident occurs.
It has urged kitchen users to keep the cylinders away from inflammable substances and sources of heat.
“Switch off the regulator when the gas cylinder is not in use. If you smell gas leaks in the air do not light the cooker or switch on any electrical equipment, open the windows, and switch off the regulator knob,” they stated.
The authority has emphasized that doors and windows in the kitchen should remain open at all times, and users should replace the safety hose every five years to avoid leakage.
The authority has urged that one should always light the match stick/lighter before turning on the gas knob and avoid wearing flammable clothes stressing that children should be supervised in the cooking area and that people should be cautious by not leaving cooking food unattended.
“Ensure that children are supervised while cooking. Do not leave cooking food unattended,” they stated.
